Typhoon Yagi, one of the strongest storms

Typhoon Yagi, one of the strongest storms to hit in the past 30 years, has caused unimaginable devastation across Northern Vietnam! 🫂

The storm, which first formed in early September, rapidly gained strength, causing widespread destruction as it made landfall. By September 17, the disaster had claimed or left missing 353 lives, injured nearly 1,900 people, and caused deep psychological trauma for those in the affected areas.

Several cities, including Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, and Thai Binh, were forced to issue level 4 disaster warnings, signaling the extreme danger. In mountainous provinces like Yen Bai and Lao Cai, flash floods and landslides swept away homes and livelihoods, forcing the highest level warnings for these regions. In Nu Village, Lao Cai, 37 houses were completely flattened, leaving 52 dead and 14 still missing. The once-green village has now been reduced to mud and rubble...

Amid this tragedy, we have also seen tremendous acts of bravery! Military officers and soldiers risked and, in some cases, sacrificed their lives to help others. These selfless heroes crossed treacherous floodwaters to bring food and medicine to those stranded in isolated areas. Many lost their lives while evacuating people from danger, but they knew their presence brought comfort and hope to those who were fearful and desperate.

We have also seen incredible acts of solidarity. Communities across the country have come together, with volunteers from the South, Central Vietnam, and the Central Highlands rushing to the North to lend a hand. People shared what little they had—food, clothing, and shelter—helping each other survive in these darkest hours.
